“Choosing Spicore was an excellent choice for our company. We previously had a website from Homes.com that did nothing for our business but cost us money. Spicore was able to develop 3 separate websites for our business and we consistently receive 30-40 qualified leads a week..“

Project Overview

The largest pharmaceutical company in the world, Pfizer, Inc. develops, produces, and markets leading prescription medicines for some of the most popular consumer brands. Founded on the premise to improve the quality of life for people around the world and help them enjoy longer, healthier, and more productive lives, the company is a global stalwart in the medical world, with three distinct subdivisions: health care, animal health and consumer health care. With such comprehensive operations, this monument of the medicine industry frequently contracts work to established consulting firms. Several talented ongoing projects in which our staff designs, develops and implements the corporate Intranets used to facilitate communication between interdepartmental productions.

Challenge

With this particular corporation having thousands of offices in hundreds of countries, it’s essential that communication be streamlined during research and development to ensure the most efficient processes possible. The primary goal of the project was to create multiple dynamic web-based applications. Recognizing that this was a valued company to patients, customers, colleagues, investors, business partners, and numerous communities, it was important to keep the site accessible to meet their immediate needs. A dynamic modernized web system would provide a constant open-line of communication between Pfizer’s Developmental Sciences Informatics (DSI) group and their customer base.
Spicore all trained system users, Spicore’s staff is well versed and comfortable at both instilling and optimizing communication management systems.

Solutions

Our experts were able to create a dynamic, web-based application to provide an open line of communication between DSi and their customer base. The application is also used to generate reports from the data captured, allowing DSi management to better understand the pipeline of requests within their portfolio. Among the many features added:
Individually designed and implemented web application using JSP, JavaBeans, JDBC and Oracle
Installed, configured and administered WebLogic 6.0 on Solaris, Windows NT and 2000
Coded JavaScript for complex form validation and manipulation
Converted pages and API from FrontPage to JSP and Java beans
Replicated Access 2000 database to Oracle
Redesigned and developed Oracle database
Triggers
Case diagrams and object models
Technical documentation
Trained system users
Created web application for uploading and maintaining large binary files to Oracle
Web based application for maintaining content and user roles

Results

In addition to creating a Customer Request website for the DSi group, the designers also created a web-based intranet application to assist research scientists in the solids division. The goal was a more effective and efficient process for testing the mechanical properties of solid formulations. The Internet application allows scientists to access data on all solid formulations that have been tested historically. This knowledge allows them to improve the formulation process, and ultimately the quality of tablets produced by Pfizer's manufacturing facilities. Finally, a third web site was created for Comparative Physiology and Medicine department. This Intranet site functions as a communication and branding tool for the initiatives of CP&M and provides dynamic content to the Users.

The supreme purpose of Pfizer, Inc. is “humanity's quest for longer, healthier, happier lives through innovation in pharmaceutical, consumer, and health products.” By understanding the importance of people in the company’s business plan, our experts focused on combining customer satisfaction with easy usability of the site. By maximizing the functionality of their customized web site, Pfizer, Inc. was able to streamline their business procedures through their digital medium, opening up vast potentials for an already immense client base.
